Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior on the Peski
Location: Spasopeskovsky Lane, Building 4A. Metro: Smolenskaya.
On December 12, 1633, in the area adjacent to Arbat, around the later Spasopeskovskaya site, a streltsy regiment was quartered and its head was appointed - Filon Mikhailovich Onichkov. Soon, Onichkov's streltsy built themselves a wooden regimental church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. According to documents, it has been known since 1643, but it arose before this date.
For many years, the warden of the temple was Sergei Petrovich Turgenev, a cousin of the writer, Ivan Sergeevich. He was a hussar, adjutant of the commander of the Moscow military district, a rich man. He invested a lot of money in the improvement of the temple and the parish. Thanks to his brother, I. S. Turgenev acquired from V. D. Polenov the author's repetition of the first version of the painting Moscow Courtyard. This painting hung in the writer’s room until his death, reminding him of Russia and Moscow.

Church of St. Nicholas of Myra on Shchepy
Location: 1st Smolensky Lane, Building 20, Building 1. Metro: Smolenskaya.
In the 17th century, the area beyond Arbat, adjacent to the Moskva River, became a construction center of sorts: the Tsar's wood chip yard was located here, where logs for wooden buildings were made. The proximity of the river was of particular importance - the firewood and timber needed for the work were delivered along it. A carpenters' settlement was formed nearby - in all likelihood, they became parishioners of the first wooden church in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, first mentioned in 1649.
After the revolution, the church suffered a bitter fate: closed in the 1930s, it lost its domes and the top of the bell tower, the facades were plastered, the interiors were destroyed, the reconstructed building completely lost its historical appearance, turning into a factory workshop of the association. Today, the Church of St. Nicholas on Shchepy has been returned to its historical appearance.

Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Bratsevo
Location: Salomei Neris Street, Building 4, Block 2. Metro stations: Planernaya, Skhodnenskaya.
In the 19th century, the church underwent significant reconstruction: one of the side chapels was rebuilt into a new one, in the name of St. John Chrysostom, the altar part was enlarged with an extension with a four-column portico. The bell tower of the church is being rebuilt, through which the entrance to the church is now located. The interior painting of the church was redone by Palekh masters.
The church was closed in the early 1930s, its domes were demolished, the bell tower was dismantled. Previously, all the most valuable things were confiscated, including church utensils and icons. Ancient icons painted in 1673 in the Armoury Chamber were later transferred to the Tretyakov Gallery: “Annunciation” (master S. Ushakov), “Meeting” (icon painter Andrei), “Crucifixion” (master G. Zinoviev), “Entry into Jerusalem” (master F. Kozlov), “Resurrection of Lazarus” (master N. Pavlovets), “Assumption” (master I. Filatiev), “Resurrection”.
